Lakeville School District - Lakeville, MN

High School and Middle School Security Equipment Upgraded

When the time came to upgrade security systems at its three middle schools, Stan Fredrickson, Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds at Lakeville Schools contacted Alpha Video.  Fredrickson had heard of Alpha Video through Greg Utecht, Lakeville Schools’ technical coordinator. “Greg recommended Alpha Video for the upgrade project,” said Fredrickson. “Alpha had
installed cameras in our boardroom in the past and Greg was very happy with the work they did.  When we found out Alpha also integrates security systems, we decided to stick with them.”  Subsequently, Lakeville Senior High added another 14 cameras and upgraded to three digital video recorders that provided clearer pictures along with a built-in clock that made pinpointing incidents easier.

Fredrickson’s main concern at Lakeville Schools was vandalism and altercations between students.  The district’s three middle schools – Century Junior High, Kenwood Trail Junior High and McGuire Junior High – each started with 8 security cameras and a digital video recorder.  With advice and guidance from Alpha Video’s security consultant Steve Dunker, Fredrickson made the decision to add another 4 to 5 cameras in each of the three junior high schools. “We found out we could add the extra cameras to our existing burglar alarm system which would further assist us in catching vandals,” said Fredrickson.

Since installing the new security equipment, Fredrickson says incidents are down. “We have seen a real reduction in student altercations and in vandalism to the properties, and we are confident these new cameras and recorders will continue to lessen occurrences of these security concerns.”

Alpha Video completed the security system installations for all three schools in November of 2003. “Installation went smoothly, with no problems whatsoever,” said Fredrickson. “In fact, Alpha Video responded to problems with the original system that they didn’t even install.  We were very impressed with that.”
